Meet Virginia Price -Tins are In!

Virginia Price, the CEO and founder of Planet Canit (http://www.planetcanit.com), has been a member of WIP’s Chicago chapter for two years. Virginia is an energetic, vibrant woman and a constant supporter of WIP. Her company specializes in custom tins. Her tins have even been seen on the Bravo television show, "Welcome to the Parker". Here’s an interview with Virginia about her experiences in packaging, with WIP and the direction of her current work.

WIP: What is your job? Where do you work?
I am the CEO and Founder of Planet Canit. I started the company in 2003 from our headquarters office in Highland Park. As the company has grown, we’ve added members who work from their own offices. Highland Park is still our main office, but we can respond to clients from anywhere our laptops can take us.

WIP: What are you currently working on?
First, let me respond at the operational level. Because our clients range from small entrepreneurial start-ups to Fortune 500 corporations and they come to us for both on-going brand support as well as new promotions, we’re always working on either concept, design, engineering, production or transport of our packaging solutions. We’re a custom manufacturer, so while I can’t discuss any customer’s proprietary project information prior to its release, I can say that retail shelves are filled with Planet Canit products holding tea, coffee, mints, cookies, confections, pasta, candles, games, sports cards, jewelry, cosmetics and, recently, fashionable underwear! At this time of year, many of our larger, established clients are preparing holiday 2008 packaging, while our small start-ups are focused on attracting attention and generating market share with distinctive, up-scale packaging.

WIP: Why did you decide to become a member of Women in Packaging?

First of all, I met the members and knew I’d enjoy getting to know them better. Equally important, Planet Canit is a certified woman-owned business, and many of our customers are also women-owned businesses. I believe in participating with and supporting other businesswomen from whom I can learn, get good advice, and share ideas. I have found Women In Packaging to be a wonderful place to gather with colleagues and discuss the industry at large.
There is excitement and value in networking with business professionals whose goals were similar to mine and who were as dedicated to growing their businesses as I am.

WIP: What trends do you see in packaging this year?
With green being the most significant and important packaging trend of our time, we find that metal packaging is of increasing interest to many industries and more and more consumers. The fact that almost no one ever throws away a custom tin makes it the ultimate green package.

That's it from Virginia. If you would like to see her tins and other work samples, visit her website http://www.planetcanit.com
